Google is launching a major modernize to its Google Maps API platform for makes today — and it’s too giving it a new list: the Google Maps Platform.

This is one of the biggest changes to the platform in recent years and it’ll vastly simplify the Google Maps developer renders and how Google charges for access to those APIs, though starting June 11, all Google Maps developers will have to have legitimate API key and a Google Cloud Platform billing account, too.

As part of this new initiative, Google is blending the 18 individual Maps APIs the company currently offers into only three core commodities: Maps, Routes and Region. The good story for makes here is that Google promises their existing system will continue to work without any changes.

As part of this update, Google is also changing how it charges for access to these APIs. It now offers a single pricing schedule with better access to free patronage. Currently, Google offers both a Standard and Premium design( where the premium design included access to support, for example ), but going forward, it’ll only give a single one, which also provides makes with $200 usefulnes of free monthly consumption. As customary, there are currently bespoke pricing a blueprint for endeavour customers.

As Google also today announced, the company plans to continue to launching numerous Maps-centric industry-specific solutions. Earlier this year, the company launched a programme designed for play makes who want to build real-world activities on Maps data, for example, and today it announced similar mixtures for asset tracking and ridesharing. Lyft already started use the ridesharing concoction in its app last year.

“Our asset moving provide helps customs improve effectiveness by pinpointing motor vehicles and assets in real-time, imagining where assets have traveled, and routing vehicles with complex trip-ups, ” the Maps team writes in today’s notice. “We expect to raising brand-new solutions to market in the future, in areas where we’re positioned to offer penetrations and expertise.”

Overall, the Google Maps team seems to be moving in the right direction now. Google Maps API access has seldom been a divisive question, especially during times when Google changed its free practice levels. Today’s change likely won’t make this kind of reaction from the developer community since it’ll likely clear life for makes easier in the long run.
